Malaysia - Japan discuss economic cooperation in AI and automotive sectors

MALAYSIA and Japan have engaged in talks to expand economic cooperation, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence (AI) development and the future of the automotive industry, amid ongoing global uncertainties.

Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the discussions took place during a bilateral meeting with Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Yoji Muto, yesterday, where both parties exchanged views on navigating current global economic challenges.

“Malaysia and Japan must unite to find fair and effective solutions,” said Tengku Zafrul in a post on X today.

“By sharing expertise and resources, we can drive growth and innovation,” he added.

The hour-long meeting also touched on the current state of global trade, which both sides acknowledged is facing increasing pressure and complexity. - April 29, 2025
