Malaysia’s digital defenses just got a massive upgrade. We’re reporting from the Google 2026 APAC Online Safety Dialogue, where Google and the Malaysian government (NACSA & NSC) have announced a landmark partnership to build a safer digital nation.

The highlights of this safety revolution:

  • Enhanced Fraud Protection: Google Play Protect will now automatically block “risky” sideloaded apps that attempt to intercept your OTPs or spy on your SMS in real-time.
  • Verified Financial Ads: Google now mandates that all financial service advertisers must be verified by Bank Negara Malaysia or the Securities Commission before they can run ads.
  • Be Scam Ready Initiative: A RM5 million grant to the ASEAN Foundation will empower 200,000 Malaysians with digital literacy training, including a new Bahasa Malaysia version of the “Be Scam Ready” interactive game launching in Q3.
  • Verified Developers: By 2027, every app on certified Android devices in Malaysia must come from a verified developer.

Scammers are getting smarter, but with these new AI-powered tools and national collaborations, Malaysia is fighting back. Stay safe, stay informed!
