Fast-track initiative helps 4,000 individuals, including single parents, start Hari Raya Aidilfitri debt-free.
PUTRAJAYA: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the Malaysian Insolvency Department will implement a fast-track bankruptcy discharge initiative for 4,000 individuals, particularly single parents, in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
He added that the initiative aims to provide relief and allow affected individuals to begin the festive season debt-free.
On Feb 16, the government launched a ‘Second Chance Fast Track Policy’ to expedite the bankruptcy discharge process for four vulnerable groups: single parents, microloan entrepreneurs, victims of financial fraud, and housing loan borrowers affected by abandoned projects.
“This Fast Track initiative is not merely a rebranding exercise,” said Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, adding that it reflects the government’s commitment to accelerate justice through an empathetic policy that rescues individuals from debt.
The policy is grounded in the principles of care and compassion under the Malaysia MADANI Framework.
“The MADANI Government believes that financial failure is not the end of life,” she said, noting that the initiative could serve as a turning point for those affected if the system is fair, efficient, and humane.
The minister also highlighted the Malaysian Insolvency Department’s recent track record in resolving bankruptcy cases: 176,851 discharges in 2024 and 204,487 cases last year, totalling over 381,000 individuals given a fresh start.
