Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched the government's vision of "Malaysia Madani" on 19 January 2023, which could be translated as "Civil Malaysia". The word "Madani" is itself a Malay acronym as SCRIPT for our commonality human values for sustainability, compassion, respect, innovation, prosperity and trust.
"Malaysia must be known as a Madani nation that is prosperous, fair and rejects any form of cruelty towards any individual or race", Anwar said. He added that while the principles of Islam remain a pillar of the nation, in a multiracial society, no one should be left behind and there must be a reset when it comes to race and religion.
In Malaysia, Hari Raya is a bustling Muslim festival that recognises and celebrates the end of the Ramadan and typically celebrated for up to a month, over weekends with family, friends and the community. On this day, you can greet Muslim hosts and friends with an intimate "Selamat Hari Raya", which means "Happy joyous day" . It is the celebration to demonstrate and reaffirm the "touching hearts" on caring of SCRIPT human values. This practice of Malaysia Madani is not entirely new to us and echoes of it can be found even in the earliest days of our country's independence. Today, the direction is to head fast towards a more civil Malaysia i.e. Malaysia Madani.
As the nation developed and matured, there is a need for our children and youth to be nurtured with caring SCRIPT values in every field of human endeavour within the context of Malaysia's multiethnic and multicultural human heritage. Hari Raya is the best instrument to instil solidarity among the people in realising Malaysia Madani.
Therefore, the importance role of parents and teachers cannot be underestimated in encouraging to upheld our noblest values like visiting Muslim schoolmates, friends, neighbours during Hari Raya celebrations. Even Malaysian Embassies worldwide should continue to invite our students abroad to attend their Hari Raya Open House.
