In a recent address at the State-level Madani Aidilfitri Celebration 2024 at the International Trade Center Melaka (MITC), Ayer Keroh, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the imperative for Malaysia to shift its focus from trivial matters towards pivotal domains such as advancements in science, mathematics, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Anwar warned that failure to do so would result in the nation falling behind in the global landscape.
Anwar highlighted the burgeoning interest of investors in industries related to information technology, digitalization, engineering, and semiconductors, which he anticipates will create approximately 30,000 job opportunities. He stressed the need for parents and the younger generation, particularly Malay youths, to prioritize fields that enhance employability.
"The focus for parents, including Malay children, must be in the fields of science, mathematics, and TVET, spearheaded diligently by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to enhance their capabilities," Anwar asserted.
Expressing concern over the prevailing mindset, Anwar urged for a paradigm shift, emphasizing that Malaysia risks lagging behind if it continues to engage in trivial disputes while neglecting substantive issues.
"I sincerely hope for a change in attitude and mindset; otherwise, we will lag behind because we are only fighting over trivial matters, continuously bickering over trivialities, and neglecting the essentials," he remarked.
Anwar's remarks underscored the necessity for Malaysia to prioritize education and skill development in crucial sectors to remain competitive in the global arena.
During his address, Anwar also commended the Melaka state government for its success in attracting foreign investors, including those from Germany. This acknowledgement reflects the government's efforts to foster a conducive environment for investment and economic growth.
In essence, Anwar's message resonates with the need for Malaysia to refocus its energies on substantive issues crucial for national development, rather than being mired in trivialities. It calls for a collective effort from all stakeholders, including parents, educators, and policymakers, to steer the nation towards a path of progress and prosperity. By investing in education, fostering innovation, and promoting skills development, Malaysia can position itself as a formidable player in the global arena, ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.
