The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has been recently accused of stealing the work of a consultant group for the Malaysian Pavilion revealed at Expo 2025 according to TheRakyatPost. Fey, the owner of consultancy firm Current Media Group (CMG) shared photo evidence on his Instagram of his company's work being used in the Pavilion’s design.
According to user Feythehuman, the company was hired by MITI in 2022 to plan the concept for the Pavilion. However, the group was suddenly dropped from the project with the contract being opened again. This was in spite of the fact that CMG was promised to be formally appointed for the project.

Screenshots from the post highlights the extent of the plagiarism including the deliberate rewording of ideas and utilisation of work word for word according to Fey.
This isn’t the first time that the government has gotten into hot water for alleged plagiarism, a similar case had occurred in 2022 with Khazanah Nasional backed CenergiSEA pulling a similar stunt according to Marketing-Interactive.
As reported by Newsdesk, Diana Chew, the creator of design company Dxclusive was asked by Cenergi to design a booth for an event that year. The company then produced a proposal but was unable to carry out the project due to pricing pressure according to a Medium article.
A week later however, Chew discovered that Cenergi approached a new company and utilised their design for the Summit despite not being involved any longer. This led to an alleged 95% copy of Dxclusive’s design being utilised for the final product according to Marketing-Interactive.
It is daunting to think that both these similar cases occurred just a few short years apart and highlights the need for stronger IP laws in the nation.
More importantly, there should be more respect given to creatives in general. The Government in particular should set the standard of respect, not be the ones to actively destroy it.
