KUALA LUMPUR: Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah has agreed to cooperate with Malaysia in efforts to establish the status of 54 Malaysians who remain missing following a disaster in Nepal.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he had spoken with Shah, who agreed to facilitate efforts to provide the families with certainty over the fate of their loved ones.

“I have had conversations with the Prime Minister, and he is willing to give all the cooperation. We have asked the Attorney-General to follow through.

“They have their laws, and we have ours. The applicable period is six or seven years, while theirs is three.

“But we can still apply to the courts, and he said he will give all the cooperation necessary to facilitate this so that the families can get the results as soon as possible,” he told reporters after visiting the Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM) quarters in Sungai Besi here today.

Earlier today, it was reported that one of the 55 Malaysians who went missing following the glacial floods in Nepal on Aug 26 was found safe and returned to Malaysia this morning.

A group representing the families of the 55 Malaysians said it was informed by Wisma Putra that the man showed up at the Malaysian embassy in Kathmandu yesterday.

Malaysia Solidarity: Families in Hope, or Masfih, said the Malaysian was travelling alone in Nepal and was at Nagthali on Aug 25, a day before the floods struck.

He was stranded at Nagthali for a period of time due to a loss of communication access and damaged infrastructure, but eventually managed to reach the embassy.
