Kota Kinabalu: Malaysia joined the BRICS group on Jan 1, 2025. Originally consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, in 2024 expanded to include Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, and the UAE (United Arab Emirates).

BRICS grants Malaysia better access to several large and promising markets, which will allow them to expand trade and reinforce investment ties, as an example of positive benefits.

AdvertisementTrade volumes are expected to increase. Being promoted is long serving Matrade Sabah Assistant Director Nurashiqien Shariqah Jimmy (pic) said that she is being transferred to Matrade HQ effective Jan 1.

She has worked hard to “help Sabah’s companies export their products, and cocoa products from Sabah for instance have been popular in trade fairs overseas.”
