RON97 and unsubsidised RON95 petrol prices increase by 60 sen per litre, while Peninsular diesel rises 80 sen as global oil prices surge.
KUALA LUMPUR: The retail price of RON97 petrol will increase by 60 sen to RM5.15 per litre from tomorrow. This new price will be in effect for the period from March 26 to April 1.
The Ministry of Finance also announced an 80 sen increase for diesel in Peninsular Malaysia, raising it to RM5.52 per litre. The price in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan remains at RM2.15 per litre.
In addition, the price of unsubsidised RON95 petrol will also rise by 60 sen to RM3.87 per litre. The subsidised price for RON95 under the BUDI MADANI programme is maintained at RM1.99 per litre.
The ministry attributed the adjustments to a surge in global crude oil prices. It stated that prolonged conflict in West Asia has driven prices up by more than 40%, surpassing USD 100 per barrel.
“This increases the risk of global oil supply disruptions,” according to the MOF statement. It said the government is maintaining the subsidised RON95 price to protect the people.
Other fuel prices are being adjusted gradually in line with global increases since the end of February 2026. The ministry noted that domestic prices are influenced by the international market.
It explained that a large portion of Malaysia’s fuel supply is obtained from the global market. The government said it will continue ensuring benefits are returned to the people.
Enhanced monitoring and enforcement are among measures to ensure stable supply and curb subsidy leakage. Sales control has been tightened, including the prohibition of selling RON95 to foreign vehicles.
The purchase of fuel exceeding 20 litres outside of a vehicle’s tank without a permit is also not allowed. The government intends to introduce controls on diesel purchases in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
This move is to address the risk of leakage in those regions. Through BUDI95, eligible citizens continue to enjoy RON95 at RM1.99 per litre.
Diesel for public transportation and land logistics remains at RM2.15 per litre. The government’s subsidy burden for these programmes exceeds RM3 billion per month.
Individual diesel assistance has also been enhanced this month. Rates for BUDI Individual and BUDI Agri-Commodities have been increased to RM300, compared to RM200 previously.
