THE Government has successfully recovered more than RM1 billion in misappropriated 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds in recent months, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today, calling it a positive step in the government’s long-running asset recovery efforts.
Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, said the process of repatriating 1MDB-linked funds and assets remains ongoing, with cases still being pursued in Switzerland and London by a dedicated special task force.
“The 1MDB case is now at its final stage, and recently, there has been another inflow. I cannot estimate the exact amount, but it exceeds RM1 billion in addition to earlier recoveries,” he said during the Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat.
He was responding to a supplementary question from Tanjong Karang MP Zulkafperi Hanapi, who had asked about the total sum of 1MDB funds recovered so far.
Anwar added that beyond the 1MDB recovery efforts, the government continues to focus on combating financial misconduct and cybercrime, including telecommunications fraud, e-financial scams, fake loans and investments, and romance fraud cases.
In October, the government and 1MDB announced that they had reached settlements with three major financial institutions — Goldman Sachs (US$3.9 billion or RM16.48 billion), AmBank Group (RM2.83 billion), and JP Morgan (Switzerland) Ltd (RM1.4 billion) — as part of ongoing efforts to recover assets linked to the multibillion-ringgit scandal. - November 11, 2025
