Malaysia reinforces global diplomatic and green energy credentials, says PM

MALAYSIA’S growing diplomatic engagement and strategic investment in clean energy were spotlighted this week, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim underscoring the country’s active role on the global stage through high-level meetings and green technology initiatives.

In a post on X, Anwar said Malaysia received a series of courtesy visits yesterday from international dignitaries representing Australia, China, Pakistan, Turkey, Palestine, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), the European Union, and the United Kingdom.

“These meetings open up new areas of cooperation in trade, education, technology, humanitarianism and regional peace, which reflect Malaysia’s commitment as a principled and trusted partner on the international stage,” he said.

The Prime Minister held seven bilateral meetings with leaders and senior representatives from the respective countries and international organisations on the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) in Putrajaya.

Separately, Anwar launched two landmark clean energy projects in Terengganu—Petronas and Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s (TNB) Hybrid Hydro Floating Solar (HHFS) and Green Hydrogen Hub initiatives at the Sultan Mahmud Power Station in Kenyir.

He said the ventures demonstrate Malaysia’s readiness to lead the region’s shift towards a low-carbon economy.

“Kenyir is now becoming a focal point of interest for international investors. This is not just a boost for Terengganu, but Kenyir itself will become a major attraction. The project has also been implemented efficiently and swiftly,” he said at the event.

The initiatives support Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR), both designed to position the country as a regional leader in renewable energy and green hydrogen.

Also in attendance were Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, TNB Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Razak Abdul Majid, and Petronas Chairman Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh. - July 12, 2025
