Malaysia remains among top in consumer confidence despite global uncertainty, ranking fourth globally and second in Southeast Asia
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia remained among the top-performing countries in the Ipsos Consumer Confidence Index in April 2026, ranking second in Southeast Asia and fourth globally, despite a dip in sentiment amid rising global uncertainty.
In a statement, Ipsos said the country’s Consumer Confidence Index eased 6.1 points month-on-month, driven by growing global uncertainty linked to the US-Iran conflict.
As consumer confidence eased, Malaysians are expected to have some tangible behavioural changes, which include reduced spending and delayed high-value purchases, it said.
“This reflected growing caution among Malaysians, although the country continued to outperform most of the 30 economies tracked,” the statement read.
Businesses would need to balance rising costs with increasingly cautious, price-sensitive consumers, the market research company said.
