Malaysia’s Home Ministry is assessing security and economic scenarios from the US-Iran conflict to safeguard national stability and prepare enforcement agencies

PUTRAJAYA: The Home Ministry is evaluating multiple potential scenarios arising from the conflict between the United States and Iran. The assessment covers implications for domestic security, cross-border movement, economic stability and enforcement agency preparedness.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (pic) chaired a strategic meeting on the conflict’s impact with ministry management and agency heads. He stated the meeting was to review developments in a conflict drawing increasing global attention.

“Our priority is clear, which is to ensure that national security continues to be preserved and that Malaysians are protected from any external uncertainties,” Saifuddin said. He emphasised this commitment in a Facebook post.

The minister noted the conflict’s developments are indirectly affecting global conditions. He highlighted impacts on energy supply chains and international economic uncertainty felt by many countries, including Malaysia.

Saifuddin said every recommendation from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is translated into strategic approaches. The goal is to ensure the country remains prepared for any global developments.

Yesterday, Anwar warned all parties not to take lightly the impact of the prolonged West Asia conflict. The Prime Minister, who is also Finance Minister, highlighted the serious ramifications.

Tensions in West Asia escalated significantly following attacks by Israel and the US on Iran. These were followed by retaliatory strikes from Tehran against US interests in the Gulf region.
