Ministry of Communications and Telekom Malaysia (TM) has jointly launched the Next Generation Emergency Response Services 999 (NG MERS 999) as the new major upgrade to Malaysia’s emergency communications infrastructure. The rollout follows the 2024 agreement between both parties to deliver “smarter, faster, and more inclusive” emergency services nationwide.
NG MERS 999

The enhanced NG MERS 999 system features an upgraded SaveME 999 mobile app that provides direct access to 999 operators through video, text and multimedia alerts, though traditional 999 voice calls remain available. The new system’s fully digital integrated platform – operated by TM – is said to enable faster response times across more than 800 locations nationwide.
In its press release, TM says the new systems are among the most advanced in the world with Advanced Mobile Location (AML) support for precise caller positioning, a unified five-agency emergency platform, and expanded digital accessibility for person with disabilities. It also utilizes AI-powered analytics, geolocation services and secure sovereign cloud hosting to support real-time decision-making and streamline emergency call management.
The system is primarily supported by two applications: the SaveME 999 app, which allows the public to submit multimedia alerts with GPS data, and the Responder App, which provides emergency agencies with real-time tracking and coordination among agencies.
