Malaysia's energy supply sufficient until July - PM Anwar

MALAYSIA’S energy supply is expected to remain sufficient at least until July, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar, who is also the Minister of Finance, said this when met by the media after performing Friday prayers at the Al-Muttaqin Mosque in Wangsa Maju today.

"God willing, enough," he said simply.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, said that the government was working to ensure the security of the country's energy supply until December, following the global supply crisis that affected the economic chain and increased energy costs.

The Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation said that so far, the country's energy supply is expected to be sufficient until July, and efforts are being intensified, including obtaining additional supply sources from abroad.

Meanwhile, in April, Anwar said that Malaysia's energy supply is expected to continue to be sufficient at least until June.

He said that despite its status as an energy-producing country, Malaysia is also a net importer due to the products produced being of premium quality with higher costs.

At the same time, the Prime Minister reminded that although the supply is sufficient for domestic use, the potential for price disruptions due to global energy volatility is inevitable.

"So far, the projections for May and June (show) the possibility of price disruptions, but (in terms of) supply for the next few months, we are sure about it," he said.

Earlier, the Prime Minister arrived at the Al-Muttaqin Mosque at around 1 pm and shook hands with other worshippers.

Worshippers, including children who were present, also took the opportunity to get autographs and take pictures with him. – May 22, 2026
