Emphasizing the importance of technological advancements in modern defense strategies, he revealed plans to recruit soldiers proficient in technology.
Khaled Nordin stressed that the evolution of the military, dubbed 'Angkatan Masa Hadapan,' necessitates a strategic embrace of technologies like AI and Big Data. He envisions a future where intelligent soldiers, potentially including individuals with expertise in hacking, will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the nation.
Acknowledging the global trend of incorporating information technology in defense operations, the minister underscored Malaysia's commitment to staying ahead in this domain. Addressing the menace posed by drones utilized for illicit activities, he highlighted the imperative of leveraging advanced technologies to counter emerging threats effectively.
Outlined as the "5T" framework, Khaled Nordin delineated five key areas where big data and AI can enhance national security: threat monitoring, trend analysis, performance tracking, transformation driver, and touchpoint platform. These technologies will facilitate proactive threat detection in cyberspace, enable the tracking of global trends, assess operational efficiency, and foster public engagement through information dissemination and education initiatives.
The Defence White Paper Mid-Term review serves as a comprehensive assessment of current achievements, strategic positioning, and policy enhancements within the defense sector. It encompasses discussions on various pertinent topics, including the development of the defense industry, diplomatic relations, and the reinforcement of reserve soldiers units.
Looking ahead, the White Paper review process will continue until 2030, with periodic evaluations scheduled to ensure alignment with evolving security dynamics and technological advancements. By embracing AI and big data analytics, Malaysia aims to fortify its defense apparatus, effectively mitigating contemporary threats while positioning itself as a forward-looking and technologically adept nation on the global stage.
