Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed satisfaction with his four-day diplomatic visit to the United States, emphasizing that it effectively showcased Malaysia's position on worldwide issues and elevated the nation's prominence on the international platform.
During a press conference concluding his participation in the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Anwar noted that the visit provided a platform to articulate Malaysia's policies and ambitions regarding international relations. He further highlighted that the engagement led to a notable surge in Malaysia's international profile.
The Prime Minister disclosed that numerous requests for bilateral meetings were received during the UNGA session, exceeding their capacity due to time constraints. Anwar expressed contentment that Malaysia's international standing has garnered admiration.
Throughout his stay in New York, Anwar engaged in bilateral discussions with leaders from Türkiye, Iraq, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Iraq, addressing critical global concerns including the Ukraine-Russia conflict, Islamophobia, climate change, and challenges in Myanmar.
In a significant stride towards economic diplomacy, Anwar successfully conducted meetings with 15 prominent US corporations featured in the Fortune 500 list. These engagements, held at the Harvard Club, included industry giants such as Airbnb, Amazon, Amazon Web Services, Boeing, ConocoPhillips, and Kimberly-Clark.
Anwar also participated in the Invest Malaysia New York event, attended by equity and bond capital market investors with combined assets under management amounting to US$40 trillion (RM187.6 trillion). During the event, he reaffirmed the government's unwavering commitment to fostering a conducive investment climate.
Despite initial hesitations stemming from pressing domestic matters including energy transformation, industrial master planning, civil economy, the mid-term review of the 12th Malaysian Plan, and impending by-elections, Anwar expressed contentment with his decision to attend the UNGA, noting that circumstances have improved significantly.
Anwar commended the dedicated efforts of the Malaysian Embassy in the US, the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the UN, the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, and other involved agencies for their pivotal roles in facilitating the successful visit.
