MALAYSIA’S Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) MAS-01 has arrived in Nepal and is heading to the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu for an operational briefing as it prepares to begin its humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) mission.
The team arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport at about noon local time yesterday and completed arrival procedures and mission protocols by about 4.30pm, including logistical clearance and verification of its personnel manifest.
The MAS-01 contingent commander said the team would receive a briefing on the latest situation before its deployment is determined in coordination with the Malaysian Embassy and local emergency management agencies.
The deployment will be based on the needs on the ground and coordinated with the relevant Nepalese authorities.
Daily updates on the mission will be coordinated between the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and the Malaysian Embassy in Nepal.
The report said all members of the team were in good condition, with no issues reported so far.
MAS-01 has been deployed to support humanitarian and disaster management efforts in Nepal, with search and rescue (SAR) operations among its key objectives.
