
The Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal announces 29 locations for the sighting of the crescent moon to determine Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026
PUTRAJAYA: The sighting of the crescent moon to mark the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Syawal has been set for the evening of 19 March 2026.
The Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal announced the date, corresponding to 29 Ramadan 1447 Hijrah, in a statement today.
The declaration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri will be made on the same evening via radio and television broadcasts.
This follows the command of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, with the consent of the Malay Rulers.
The method for determining the date, agreed upon by the Conference of Rulers, remains based on the traditional practices of Rukyah (sighting) and Hisab (calculation).
A total of 29 locations across the country have been designated for the moon-sighting observation.
Key locations include Baitul Hilal Bangunan Sultan Ismail in Pontian, Johor and Kompleks Falak Al-Khawarizmi in Melaka.
In Negeri Sembilan, observers will gather at Baitul Hilal Telok Kemang, Port Dickson.
Selangor’s sites are Bukit Melawati in Kuala Selangor, Bukit Jugra in Banting, and the Balai Cerap Selangor in Sabak Bernam.
Other sites are Balai Hilal Pantai Pasir Panjang in Manjong, Perak and Pusat Falak Sheikh Tahir in Pantai Aceh, Pulau Pinang.
In Kedah, observations will be conducted at the Stesen Cerapan Hilal in Kampung Pulau Sayak and the Menara Alor Setar.
Terengganu has four locations: Bukit Besar in Kuala Terengganu, Bukit Geliga in Kemaman, Pulau Perhentian in Besut, and Balai Cerap KUSZA in Setiu.
Kelantan’s sites are Bukit Peraksi in Pasir Puteh, Bukit Kampung Tembeling in Kuala Krai, and the Menara Bangunan SEDC in Kota Bharu.
In Sarawak, observations will be at the Pusat Falak in Miri, Teluk Bandung in Kuching, and Bintulu.
Sabah’s designated location is the Balai Cerap Al-Biruni in Putatan.
Pahang has three sites: Bukit Tanjong Batu in Nenasi, Gunung Berincang in Cameron Highlands, and Menara 188 in Kuantan.
The final four locations are the Menara Universiti Malaysia Sabah at the Labuan International Campus, Menara Kuala Lumpur, the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, and the Menara Pandang Masjid Al-Hussain in Kuala Perlis, Perlis.
