Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar has expressed deep concern over the alarming rise of Khawarij and Takfiri ideologies in Malaysia. These ideologies, which involve condemning perceived "oppressive" governments and easily accusing others of apostasy, are being closely monitored by the government.
To counter this trend, the government is actively engaging in Islamic teachings, conducting lectures, and religious classes in public places like mosques, surau, and social media platforms. The aim is to promote unity and prevent deviation from the teachings of Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jamaah.
Mohd Na’im emphasized the importance of firmly establishing and comprehending the teachings of Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jamaah within the Muslim community. He warned that religious speakers introducing confusing topics that threaten unity will receive warnings from the Mufti department, and their teaching licenses may be revoked if they fail to adhere to regulations.
The government's goal is for Malaysian Muslims to follow Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jamaah and avoid labeling fellow Muslims as disbelievers simply due to differences in opinions.
Addressing concerns about the impact of the Nik Elin Zurina case on Shariah courts, Mohd Na’im reassured the public that it would not affect their authority or the Shariah laws in different states.
Furthermore, a special committee is studying issues related to the competencies of the State Legislative Assembly in enacting Islamic laws. The committee is expected to present a report on their findings and recommendations within six months to a year, which will then be presented to the National Council of Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) and the Conference of Rulers for approval before being tabled at the Cabinet meeting.
Mohd Na’im urged all parties to remain patient and allow the Special Committee to carry out its study and present their recommendations and perspectives on all arising issues.
He emphasized the need for patience and cooperation from all parties, highlighting the importance of allowing the committee to complete its study thoroughly.
Malaysia is taking decisive steps to address the rising Khawarij and Takfiri ideologies. Through proactive monitoring, educational initiatives, and strict adherence to the teachings of Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jamaah, the government aims to promote unity and prevent the spread of deviant ideologies. The public is urged to remain vigilant and support these efforts to safeguard the country's religious harmony and stability.
As part of these efforts, the government is also working to strengthen the role of Shariah courts and ensure that they can continue to enforce Shariah laws effectively. The recent case involving Nik Elin Zurina has raised concerns, but Minister Mohd Na’im Mokhtar has reassured the public that the authority of Shariah courts and the implementation of Shariah laws in different states will not be affected.
Additionally, a special committee has been established to study issues related to the competencies of the State Legislative Assembly in enacting Islamic laws. This committee is expected to present its findings and recommendations within the next six months to a year. The report will then be reviewed by the National Council of Islamic Religious Affairs (MKI) and the Conference of Rulers before being tabled at a Cabinet meeting.
Mohd Na’im Mokhtar urged all parties to remain patient and allow the committee to complete its study. He emphasized the importance of the committee's work in addressing various issues related to Islamic laws and regulations.
In conclusion, Malaysia is taking proactive measures to address the rise of Khawarij and Takfiri ideologies. Through monitoring, education, and legal reforms, the government aims to promote unity and preserve the teachings of Ahl al-Sunnah wal Jamaah. The public is encouraged to support these efforts and contribute to maintaining religious harmony in the country.
