PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will table a motion in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday condemning what he described as a “brutal and violent” attack by Israel on Iran, allegedly carried out with the support of the United States.
Speaking at a breaking-of-fast event with local community leaders at the Seri Perdana Complex on Sunday, the Prime Minister characterised the reported strike as an act of injustice and a repeated breach of international law that must be firmly denounced.
“The cruelty of Zionist Israel never ceases because they have completely lost and darkened any sense of humanity,” he said.
Anwar also extended condolences to the Iranian people following reports that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, had been killed in the attack.
“On behalf of all Malaysians, we say Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun on the passing of Imam Khamenei and his family, who became victims of the cruelty of Zionist Israel,” he said.
International news agencies reported that Israeli forces launched strikes on Iran on Saturday, with explosions reported in Tehran and several other cities, including Isfahan, Qom, Karaj and Kermanshah.
Reports of Khamenei’s death were said to have been confirmed on Monday morning by Iran’s state broadcaster, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), which announced that “the Supreme Leader of Iran has been martyred”, fuelling speculation that had circulated since earlier in the day.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump and Israeli officials claimed that Khamenei had been killed in a joint military operation against Iran.
However, authorities in Tehran denied those assertions, describing them as part of a psychological warfare campaign against the Islamic Republic. - March 2, 2026
