KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 - The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has unblocked access to X’s Grok artificial intelligence (AI) app effective today, following confirmation of additional preventive and security measures by the social media platform.

In a statement today, MCMC said the decision was made after a Wednesday meeting between the Communications Ministry, MCMC and X representatives to obtain clarification and commitments regarding preventive measures and compliance with Malaysian laws.

“X has confirmed the required security measures have been implemented on the Grok app,” the statement said.

MCMC said that upon considering X’s explanations and initial confirmation, it unblocked access to Grok, subject to monitoring by the authorities.

It stressed that user safety is a priority and violations of Malaysian law would be firmly dealt with.

On January 11, MCMC ordered a temporary restriction on access to Grok in Malaysia following users’ repeated attempts at generating obscene and sexually explicit content.
