In a recent session in the Dewan Rakyat, Deputy Sports Minister Adam Adli addressed the circulating rumors regarding Malaysia’s opportunity to host American pop sensation Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour.”

Contrary to speculative media reports, Adli clarified that Malaysia had never been approached with an offer to host the concert.

This statement came in response to inquiries from DAP’s Kampar MP, Chong Zhemin, shedding light on the misinformation surrounding the event’s potential hosting in Malaysia.

Adam Adli highlighted that the government, through sports consultancy firm Sportswork Group, confirmed no such proposal had ever been made.

Adam Adli further explained that the contract between concert organizer ASM and Malaysia’s stadium authority, PSM, signed in early 2023, was purely for general venue support and had no direct ties to any concert events, including Taylor Swift’s tour.

The Deputy Sports Minister also specified that the authorization of concert applications falls under the jurisdiction of the Communications Department, not the Youth and Sports Ministry.

The latter is responsible for managing sports facilities and the related logistics and transportation.

Additionally, Adam Adli revealed that there are no plans for the Youth and Sports Ministry and the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to bid for the hosting of the 2026 Thomas Cup, aligning with the government’s current focus areas.
