Kota Kinabalu: Malaysia reportedly won a French court case that will likely annul a US$15 billion award to self-proclaimed heirs of the defunct Sulu sultanate over territorial claims related to Sabah.

The Paris court of appeals ruled Tuesday that the arbitration court that ordered Malaysia to pay the so-called Sulu heirs did not have jurisdiction over the case, Bloomberg reported.

Malaysia was ordered by a French Arbitration Court in Paris last year to pay the Sulu claimants.

The Malaysian government later moved to cancel the award in Paris, while a Luxembourg court set aside the legal action payment, Malaysia said in January.
