A recent study by global market research firm Ipsos has revealed that Malaysia ranks among the top five countries in the world for love life satisfaction. The Love Life Satisfaction Index 2025 surveyed 23,765 adults under 75 across 30 countries, measuring their happiness in love, romance, and relationships. With a score of 79, Malaysia shares the fifth spot with Chile, the Netherlands, and Peru.
Malaysia Among the Happiest in Love
The study found that Asian and Latin American countries dominated the rankings, with Colombia leading at a score of 82, making its people the most satisfied with their love lives and relationships. Thailand, Mexico, and Indonesia tied for second place with a score of 81, just slightly ahead of Malaysia.
The index is based on three key factors: general love life satisfaction, satisfaction with romantic/sex life, and happiness in relationships with partners or spouses.
Majority of Malaysians Content in Love
When asked about their love life, 84% of Malaysian respondents expressed satisfaction, with 30% saying they were very satisfied and 54% somewhat satisfied. This marks a 7% increase from the previous year. However, 15% of respondents admitted to feeling unsatisfied in their love lives.
Regarding their romantic and sex lives, 67% of Malaysians reported being satisfied, showing a 4% increase from the year before. Out of this, 30% were very satisfied, while 37% were somewhat satisfied. On the other hand, 23% of respondents were not satisfied with this aspect of their relationships.
Satisfaction with relationships with partners or spouses was also high, with 87% of Malaysians expressing contentment—44% very satisfied and 43% somewhat satisfied. However, there was a slight 1% decline in this category compared to last year.
Higher Income, Happier Love Life
The study also highlighted a correlation between income levels and love life satisfaction. Globally, 83% of high-income earners reported happiness in their love lives, compared to 76% in middle-income groups and 69% among lower-income earners. A similar pattern was seen in romantic and sex life satisfaction, where 67% of high-income earners were happy, compared to only 51% of low-income individuals.
With Malaysia ranking among the world's most love-satisfied nations, the study suggests that economic stability and emotional well-being play a crucial role in romantic happiness.
