Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sabah has arrested a former director of a government agency in Sabah suspected of soliciting and receiving bribes amounting to approximately RM110,000 from several companies that were awarded supply projects by the department where he was employed.

According to a source, the male suspect, in his 50s, was apprehended at around 2.30 pm Tuesday while he was giving a statement at the MACC office in Kota Kinabalu.

Advertisement (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});“Initial investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have committed the offence in early 2024, soliciting bribes for the officers under his supervision.

The suspect is also suspected of receiving kickbacks in the form of goods such as washing machines, laptops, tablets, smartphones, electric guitars, gym equipment, car accessories, and payments for motorcycle purchases,” said the source.

The MACC has also seized and confiscated all those items. The suspect would be released on MACC bail after his statement has been taken.
