A Malaysian Army soldier is on life support after an alleged assault at his camp, with the Army Chief vowing firm action against unacceptable violence

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian Army soldier remains in critical condition on life support following an alleged assault at his camp. Army Chief General Datuk Azhan Md Othman confirmed the soldier’s grave condition at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh.

The victim has been identified as Private Muhammad Amirul Raziq Rosafindi. He was allegedly assaulted on March 30 at the 25th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment camp in Bentong.

General Azhan stated that acts of extreme violence within the Malaysian Army are completely unacceptable. He emphasised that firm action will be taken against anyone found guilty.

“We are awaiting the outcome of the police investigation, while a Board of Inquiry has also been established at the Army level,” he said. Azhan made these remarks after officiating the 93rd Army Day parade at Kem Perdana Sungai Besi.

Police have detained a 37-year-old corporal to assist in the investigation into the assault. The Army Chief said the military is cooperating fully with the ongoing police probe.

Azhan added that the suspect will be placed under close supervision if released from remand. He stressed that those who resort to violence have no place in the Army.

The Army Chief also stated he would visit the critically injured soldier to obtain the latest update on his condition.
