
Kota Kinabalu: According to Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) data, Malaysia’s 2024 vehicle sales reached a new milestone in achieving a record total industry volume (TIV) of 816,747 units.
Malaysia’s TIV breached the 800,000 figures for the first time in the history of the country and it was an improvement over 2023’s 799,821 units.
AdvertisementPassenger cars topped the data figures which went up 3.9 per cent year-on-year. Commercial vehicles volume saw a 13.8 per cent drop.
On the Top 10 List is Perodua which led the market numbers at 358,102 units, with Proton in second place. Proton saw its first dip in sales since 2018, selling 147,587 units in 2024, according to MAA.

Read more In third place is Toyota with 100,701 units sold, followed by fourth placed Honda with 81,699 units sold. The Honda Civic is the most popular car in the non-national car category.
In fifth place is China’s Chery with its total of 19,683 units sold, followed by sixth placed Mitsubishi with 16,167 units sold. Chery’s Kolombong showroom showed encouraging sales in 2024.
AdvertisementIn seventh place is Mazda with sales of 14,537 units, followed by eighth placed Isuzu with 13,286 units sold.
In ninth place is BMW with sales of 10,527 units, followed by tenth placed BYD whose EV sales jumped by 130 per cent to 8,570 units sold. BYD’s Kolombong showroom garnered good sales growth.

Nissan had fallen off the top 10 list to be at 11th place with 7,785 units above Mercedes Benz at 7,114 units sold.
