Kota Kinabalu: A Malaysian family has gone viral and upset netizens for eating their koi, prized fish which are considered as pets by many, it has been reported

A woman shared on Twitter a picture of the two fried fish, which had died after the water pump in the family’s aquarium stopped functioning following a power outage.

The woman said her mother refused to remove the scales from the fish and clean it, but opted to assist in frying the fish. Her father performed the dreaded chores instead.

“What’s weird is that she doesn’t want to clean the fish because she felt bad, but frying it and eating it is okay,” Singaporean social news site Mothership reported the woman as saying.

Most of the responses to the woman’s tweets are expressions of disbelief and disgust, the report said.

The others empathised, saying they ate theirs too.
