In the video, the host showed off a black Mercedes-Benz S350 with the plate number ‘1M’, which uses a dateless format that is not in accordance with the standard specification in the country.

It was then revealed that the plate number is one of the most expensive in the UK and can’t ever be bought by normal citizens.

@numberplatehistory further asserted that it has been well-documented that the ‘1M’ plate number is owned by the Malaysian Government.

Specifically, the plate number was specially issued to the Malaysian Embassy in the UK and the Malaysian High Commissioner to the country has the privilege of driving the S350 with the plate number.

He added that the plate number is now worth over GBP1 million or more than RM5.73 million, which makes it one of the most expensive in the country.

It’s impossible to get a two-digit plate number in the UK today

In the caption, @numberplatehistory added that the ‘1M’ plate is an embassy plate, hence, it is non-transferable outside of vehicles owned by the Malaysian Embassy.

Historically, the ‘1M’ plate number has been on a variety of vehicles from London Taxis to Mercedes Benz S Classes, currently sitting on the S350 seen in the video.

While it’s impossible to say when the registration was issued, @numberplatehistory said documents revealed that it was already in use by 1974 through the late researcher Noel Woodall.

As to why the plate number would have a high value in the market today, @numberplatehistory said that a plate number’s value comes inherently from its initial, number, and character length.

@numberplatehistory elaborated,

“As it is impossible in the UK to have a two-digit plate number, this is the shortest possible M alongside the privately owned M1.”

@numberplatehistory£1M Plate You will never be able to buy! This number plate, with a dateless format, was especially issued to the Malaysian Embassy. As it an embassy plate, it is non transferable outside of their vehicles. Over the years, it has been on a variety of vehicles from London Taxis to Mercedes Benz S Classes, currently sitting on an S450. Although it is impossible to say when the registration was issued, documents tell us it was already in use by 1974 through the amazing researcher late Noel Woodall. If this registration ever came to market, not that it can, it would likely sell for over seven figures – or a million pound number plate! It’s value comes inherently from it’s initial, number, and character length. Number Plates / Registration value can be established by a few factors: Popularity of Initials Number of Characters Quality of Numbers As it is impossible in the United Kingdom to have a two digit number plate, this is the shortest possible M alongside the privately owned M1.
