SINGAPORE, Sept 23 — A 37-year-old Malaysian man was arrested at Tuas Checkpoint on September 20 after authorities discovered more than 3.8kg of drugs hidden in his car, The Straits Times reported today.
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said the haul, estimated to be worth over S$272,000 (RM890,000), included 1.908kg of heroin, 1.655kg of cannabis and 268g of methamphetamine, or Ice.
ICA officers first found two black bundles concealed in the car’s rear boot panel.
A further search by CNB officers revealed six more bundles tucked in various compartments.
“The drugs could feed the addiction of about 1,300 abusers for a week,” the authorities said.
Singapore law imposes the death penalty on those caught importing or exporting more than 15g of pure heroin, 250g of methamphetamine or 500g of cannabis.
Investigations into the case are ongoing.
