According to Moretify, the victim allegedly ordered ten pieces of RM500 worth of Musang King durian from a well-known local live streamer, hoping to enjoy his delicious fruits of labor afterward. However, his worst fears became a reality when the RM500 paid Musang King durian was inedible. To his horror, some durian flesh was rotten, while more than half of the rest was still unripe.

Naturally, the victim immediately complained about the matter to the durian seller cum owner. Thus, the owner tried to placate the victim by agreeing to compensate him with a box of 250gram durian not exceeding 1.2kg. But the victim merely laughed off the live-streamer's cheap offer.

Furthermore, he felt incredibly daft for spending his hard-earned money on mere durians but got conned badly. Of the latest update, the live streamer of this Musang King durian fiasco decided to pull the plug on the entire durian deal. Even worse, he tried to cover and deny all his wrongdoings by quickly streaming on another live broadcast to the public.

This incident serves as a lesson to the public that we should only buy goods online only via credible e-commerce platforms like Lazada and Shopee. Regardless of how enticing the recent live-streaming trend which was originally popularized in China, we need to educate ourselves to become smart consumers and not be easily swayed or deceived by mere persuasive words and images we see online. Also, it is best to do our research well first and enquire from people we can trust before jumping straight into an impulsive or bad purchase. After all, scammers come in all forms and will con on anything they can monetize. Due to that, you hear of greedy and desperate people falling not only to 'big-time' multimillion-dollar investment scams - but to lesser amounts types of scams like the seasonal mooncake scam to 'bak chang' aka Chinese dumplings scam.

The Bottomline:

In short, those who suspect they are a victim of consumer-related scams like the durian scam above should report to the relevant local authorities. But be certain you have concrete evidence, like a certified receipt and other lawful details to back you up fully since action speaks louder than words. I recalled buying an expensive imported recliner from Shopee once, but the dirtbag scheming seller had plenty of nerve and gave me a super cheapskate of less than RM 5.00 worth of plastic stool instead. Nevertheless, I lodged a direct complaint and returned back the stool for my refund from Shopee. In addition, I also gave the seller my two cents' worth and put them right where they belong. Regardless of that, online shopping can be a fun and therapeutic experience but it is crucial to always stay safe and take all the necessary precautions!
