
TAWAU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a cargo boat 0.7 nautical miles south of the Customs jetty at 8.30pm on Monday for failing to adhere to safety protocols while transporting petroleum and liquefied gas (LPG) cylinders.
Tawau Maritime Zone Director, Maritime Captain Shahrizan Raman, said the boat, manned by three men aged 33 to 45, was carrying petrol and diesel stored in barrels, along with 411 cylinders.

He said that a documentation check revealed that it served as a supplier of subsidised goods to Pulau Sebatik.

He said the total value of the seizure, including the cargo boat, is estimated at RM136,000. Earlier, based on intelligence information, a Malaysian Maritime patrol boat conducting Op Pluto Timur and Op Tiris was deployed to intercept and inspect the cargo boat transporting petrol, diesel, and LPG cylinders from Tanjung Batu waters to Sebatik waters.
