Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Armed Forces will be sending 106 troops including 14 medical specialists to Turkey for relief efforts following the 7.8-magnitude earthquake which devastated the country early Monday.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said three level-one field hospitals which act as emergency rooms and a level-two one which is an operating theatre will be set up there.
Mohamad said a coordination meeting attended by the Ambassador of Turkey, Foreign Affairs Ministry representatives alongside the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and the armed forces was carried out Thursday.
“A flight carrying 44 tonnes of assets and supplies is scheduled at 2am (Friday) onboard two Royal Malaysian Air Force A-400Ms departing the Subang air base. We expect multiple trips,” he told reporters at the Lok Kawi army camp Thursday.
“Some 60 other rescue workers from various agencies will also be aiding the search and rescue efforts.”
