Children born overseas to Malaysian mothers are now eligible to apply for Malaysian citizenship following a settlement between six Malaysian mothers and the Federal Government, New Straits Times reported.
The agreement, reached before the Federal Court today, marks the end of a long legal battle.
In September 2021, the High Court ruled in favour of Family Frontiers and the six mothers, affirming their children’s right to citizenship.
However, the Court of Appeal overturned the decision in a 2-1 ruling on Aug 5, 2022.
The Federal Court granted leave for an appeal on Dec 14, 2022.
