A major police operation in Selangor has uncovered a large-scale contraband food syndicate, seizing non-halal chicken, pork, and vehicles worth nearly RM2 million
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have crippled a syndicate involved in smuggling and selling contraband frozen food in the Klang Valley.
The Royal Malaysia Police seized 97 boxes of uncertified frozen chicken and 34 tonnes of pork carcasses in an integrated operation in Kampung Baru Subang yesterday.
The initial haul of food items was valued at RM1.5 million. Commander SAC Mohd Zaki Ashar of the Bukit Aman Wildlife Crime Bureau said authorities also confiscated three lorries and three weighing scales.
This brought the total value of the seizure to RM1.9 million. The operation involved raids on three separate premises in the area.
It was conducted alongside multiple agencies including the Department of Veterinary Services and the Ministry of Health. Other participating bodies were the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.
“In addition to the frozen food items, police also confiscated three weighing scales and three one-tonne lorries,” Mohd Zaki said in a statement today.
He confirmed that 32 individuals were detained to assist in the investigation. Those arrested include three company owners and managers aged between 22 and 59.
All detainees were taken to the Sungai Buloh District Police Headquarters for further action. Several agencies also issued compounds for various offences detected during the operation.
Mohd Zaki stated that authorities will continue to step up monitoring efforts. The goal is to ensure food safety and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
