If you’ve been keeping up with the news, you’ve probably heard of Fahmi Reza’s #KelasDemokrasi through which he educates the public about Malaysian politics 101.
Perhaps inspired by Fahmi’s initiative and enthusiasm, other Malaysians have also took it upon themselves to help others be more informed about the current political scene.
One of these Malaysians is Shre (@GejalaSosialite), who last night shared some screenshots of a conversation she had with a misinformed Bumble match about electoral processes.
“My contribution as a commoner was to educate my misinformed Bumble match on the electoral process and Malaysian democracy,” she said in her tweet, adding that she “will now be waiting for her Service Medal.”
In the screenshots, Shre’s match stated that they are voting for Barisan Nasional (BN) because their “place is fully BN“.
This caused Shre to tell them that “that’s not actually how democracy works“. We don’t have to vote for a certain political party just because everyone around us is doing so.
She then politely offered to share some information about electoral processes, of which her match accepted. #KelasDemokrasiBumble begins!
“Oh god this is going to be a long night. And NOT in a sexy way. It’s tough being a hot and useful citizen of Malaysia”, Shre tweeted live to her followers last night.
Fast forward to this morning, Shre’s match updated her with a photo of their inked finger with the message, “I voted Pakatan for both“.
“Hoping this match actually made a well-informed decision and is now equipped with a decent understanding of Malaysian democracy and it’s electoral processes”, Shre said about the incident.
“Democracy prevails. Another Anak Malaysia saved from misinformation”, she concluded.
