Recently, the famous Indonesian band Dewa 19 announced a piece of exciting news to their fans in Malaysia – an anniversary tour concert titled 30 Years of Dewa 19 featuring big names such as Ari Lasso, Once Mekel, Ello, and many more. The concert price starts from RM148 (for early birds) and their most expensive tickets are priced at RM488.
Good news for Dewa 19, their concert tickets are sold out just within an hour. However, the smooth sale of 30 Years of Dewa 19 Concert tickets has raised many questions from Prof Datuk Dr. Teo Kok Seong.
According to Prof Datuk Dr. Teo Kok Seong, he finds it hard to believe that Malaysians can afford to pay hundreds of ringgit for a concert ticket. “Why would anyone want to pay money in the middle of the month to attend the performance for a few hours?” said Prof Teo.
He questioned the spending habit of Malaysians by the fact that the vast majority of people in this nation constantly gripe about and are indignant about the high expense of living brought on by global inflation.

He added, that even when the government assists some community organizations, some people do not ‘appreciate’ the gift. The donation, on the other hand, is dismissed with statements like "that's not enough, it's not worth it, and it's not enough to buy chicken and oil." Even though the government spent close to RM80 billion trying to lighten the burden on the populace, nothing was enough.
However, Prof Datuk Dr. Teo Kok Seong said that despite the criticism and expression of unhappiness, a small number of people are still prepared to spend money on a ticket only for amusement. He is rather astonished by this circumstance and believes that it is taking place because the nation's citizens are losing their sense of self.
What do you think of Prof Datuk Dr. Teo Kok Seong’s statement? In my opinion, not all Malaysians can afford to go to concerts. Those who bought the concert tickets are the 5% group (T20 and above) that is not affected by the inflation that is going on in Malaysia right now. It is unfair to dismiss the struggles of the other 95% of Malaysians for what the elite group can afford.
