The Malaysian government is planning to send students to China as part of its initiative to promote Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) under the Look East Policy 2.0. This decision aligns with the government's efforts to strengthen TVET in the country, following a similar desire to send students to Japan and South Korea.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed confidence in sending Malaysian students to China, emphasizing that China has become as advanced, if not more advanced, than Japan and South Korea. The Look East Policy 2.0 aims to expose Malaysian students to high-tech fields and enhance their skills through international education.
Ahmad Zahid visited the Tokyo National Institute of Technology (Kosen) to understand the Kosen model, which emphasizes comprehensive TVET learning with a five-year educational path starting at the age of 15. He noted that Malaysia's TVET students would benefit from studying abroad and gaining exposure to different approaches and technologies.
In a meeting with Malaysian students in Japan, Ahmad Zahid mentioned the government's commitment to sending more students abroad for TVET studies, aligning with ongoing efforts to elevate TVET in the country.
During his seven-day working visit to Japan, Ahmad Zahid highlighted that the National TVET Policy is expected to be presented to the Cabinet in March, with a scheduled launch on June 2, coinciding with National TVET Day. The policy framework, which is currently under review by various ministries and agencies, aims to provide guidance for TVET programs across Malaysia, adapting them to meet industry needs.
As of now, Malaysia boasts 1,345 TVET institutions, with an impressive 92.5% employability rate for TVET graduates. The National TVET Policy is envisioned as a crucial guideline to enhance the marketability and competitiveness of the workforce, contributing to sustainable economic growth and national prosperity.
The Look East Policy 2.0 reflects the government's commitment to fostering international collaboration in education, allowing Malaysian students to benefit from diverse educational systems and technologies to better contribute to the country's development.
