Kota Kinabalu: Malaysia has recorded a poor ranking in a “Global Life-Work Balance Index” conducted by a human resources platform.
The recent report by Remote.com said the 60 highest GDP nations across the world were reviewed on the index.
A series of workplace-related factors were analysed, such as statutory annual leave, sick pay, maternity leave, healthcare and overall happiness.
“The goal of this study is to represent each country’s life-work balance accurately […] to showcase how businesses in each country are looking to put life before work,” the study says.

“Employees in Mexico, Malaysia, and Nigeria are the most overworked, each clocking up over 40 hours on average each week (including full- and part-time workers),” it says.
Overall calculation of the factors mentioned above has given Malaysia a score of 27.51 over 100.
The score for Malaysia reflects an average of 40.8 hours worked per week, 19 days of statutory annual leave (including public holidays), and a minimum wage of USD1.07 (RM4.31) per hour, among other things.
