KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians have been urged to attend the Palestinian Solidarity Gathering at Axiata Arena Stadium, Bukit Jalil, starting from 6.30 pm this Sunday.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, who has been entrusted with leading the gathering announced that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to give a speech along with other leaders to state their solidarity with the Palestinian people.
“The Cabinet decided that I would lead the gathering this Aug 4 at Axiata Arena Stadium, Bukit Jalil that will start during Maghrib.
“The Prime Minister will give a speech for us to state our solidarity with the Palestinians and defend the oppressed people as well as the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh,” he said in a video posted on Facebook.
Hamas announced yesterday that Haniyeh was killed along with his bodyguard in an Israeli air attack that targeted his residence in Tehran, Iran.
Earlier today, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, in his capacity of Unity Government spokesman, had urged all parties, including MPs and Dewan Negara members, regardless of their party affiliations, to attend the gathering.
A Solidarity with Gaza gathering had been previously held at the National Mosque, which brought together political leaders from the Unity Government and the opposition in a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
