DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has dismissed claims that he could become Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar (MB), describing the suggestion as a politically motivated attempt to mislead voters ahead of the state election.
The Transport Minister said Pakatan Harapan had named only one candidate for the state's top post — caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, better known as Tok Min.
"Those are malicious claims made by those opposing us. Our Menteri Besar candidate is only one person, and that is Tok Min,” he told reporters after visiting the KTM station in Bahau today.
Loke said there was no basis for the speculation as the Negeri Sembilan Constitution clearly stipulates that the Menteri Besar must be a Malay Muslim elected to the State Legislative Assembly.
“The candidate for MB in Negri Sembilan is clearly stated under the state constitution, which requires a Malay Muslim assemblyman. I do not fulfil those requirements,” he said.
He was responding to remarks by UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, who questioned who Pakatan Harapan would nominate as Menteri Besar if Aminuddin were to lose the Linggi state seat, which Asyraf described as a Barisan Nasional stronghold.
Asyraf suggested that Loke could ultimately be appointed Menteri Besar, asking voters whether they wanted "a Menteri Besar from DAP".
He also said Barisan Nasional had a wide selection of potential candidates for the office should it secure enough seats to form the next Negeri Sembilan government, including seasoned leaders as well as younger figures with experience in state administration. - July 24, 2026
