A MAN has been arrested after allegedly strangling his girlfriend to death in their shared apartment in Kampung Baru Subang, reportedly claiming he could no longer cope with being “controlled” by her.
The suspect, aged 47, contacted police at 8.54pm yesterday to report the incident. According to Sungai Buloh District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor, the couple had been renting a room in the unit with another male tenant.
“When police arrived at the apartment, the other tenant informed them that the couple were staying in the back room. Officers knocked on the door, which was locked, before the suspect opened it,” said Mohd Hafiz in a statement today.
Inside, officers discovered a 52-year-old woman lying unconscious on the bed. A medical team from Sungai Buloh Hospital later confirmed that she had died.
“Initial findings suggest the suspect strangled the victim. He is believed to have acted under emotional pressure due to the victim’s controlling behaviour,” Mohd Hafiz said.
It is estimated the woman had been dead for over four hours prior to police arrival. The suspect was arrested at the scene and is currently under remand until 30 August.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Mohd Hafiz urged the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading speculation or taking unlawful action.
“Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to come forward to the nearest police station or contact Investigating Officer Inspector Azraai Mohamad at 018-9696941,” he added. - August 24, 2025
