Police detain a 22-year-old man in Melaka for allegedly assaulting his pregnant wife, with the case investigated under assault and domestic violence laws.

JASIN: Police have arrested a man for allegedly assaulting his pregnant wife at a house in Taman Seri Kemendor here on Thursday (March 19).

Melaka Tengah police chief ACP Christopher Patit said the 22-year-old suspect was detained at the Melaka police headquarters at about 11 am. Officers from the D8 and D11 units of the Criminal Investigation Department made the arrest.

Patit said the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994. He urged those with information to contact the Melaka Tengah police headquarters or any nearby station.

The public was also advised not to speculate on the case, as it could interfere with the investigation. This arrest follows a report that police were hunting for a man believed to have assaulted his pregnant wife at a karaoke centre in Kota Shahbandar last Sunday.
