LAHAD DATU: Police have arrested a 20-year-old local man in connection with an alleged sexual act against a female student.
District police chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said the suspect was taken into custody at 1.15pm on Saturday at the Lahad Datu Police Headquarters.
He said the case involved a 16-year-old girl at a house along Jalan Silam.
The suspect is currently being held for further investigation.
Police are investigating the case under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping, upon conviction.
