POLICE have detained a man and seized several objects believed to be improvised explosive devices (IEDs) after an arrest along a road in the Batang Benar area of Nilai yesterday afternoon, in connection with an explosion incident reported in Desa Palma on December 22.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the suspect, a 62-year-old man, was arrested at about 4.15pm. Police also confiscated a motorcycle believed to have been used by the man.
“A body inspection found burn injuries on his face, body, hands and legs.
“At the time of arrest, he was in a weakened condition before being taken to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital for treatment,” he said in a statement issued here on Saturday.
Alzafny urged the public not to speculate on the case, stressing the importance of allowing investigations to proceed without interference.
He also called on members of the public to continue providing any relevant information to the authorities and expressed appreciation for the cooperation that led to the suspect’s arrest.
Earlier, he confirmed that the man was detained following information received from the public, which led police to locate him in the Batang Benar area.
On Friday, Alzafny revealed that the suspect, known by the nickname “Ayang”, was believed to have technical knowledge and specialised skills in manufacturing explosive materials. This assessment was based on the discovery of various devices and equipment seized during a search of the suspect’s rented house.
Police subsequently found an additional 31 IEDs at the residence. All explosive materials recovered during the operation have since been destroyed to eliminate further risk.
Last Monday, Alzafny was reported as saying that police had discovered objects suspected to be IEDs following the explosion in the Desa Palma area. The incident came to light after police received a public report at 7.08am stating that an object had exploded and nails were scattered around the area.
Investigations into the case are ongoing as police continue to assess the full extent of the suspect’s activities and any potential threat to public safety. - December 28, 2025
