A foreigner was caught stealing an ATM in the Muang District of Kanchanaburi, Thailand, after tying the machine to a pickup truck and dragging it away on early Sunday morning (21 September).

According to a report by Bangkok Post, Chief of the Ban Ped police station, Pol Col Pakpoom Decharuangsin, shared that the Dutch national, identified only as Sijtse, was found hiding by the roadside where the pickup truck and the ATM were left.

After using big chains to tie the ATM to the pickup truck, the Dutchman only managed to drag the machine for about 20 metres from where the ATM was stolen.

He has been in Thailand for 6 years and has a local wife

Having lived in the country for 6 years and marrying a local woman, he apparently gave his 37-year-old wife THB10 million (~RM1,323,280) to open a restaurant.

He had a financial dispute with her and went out to meet a friend, but ended up committing the theft instead.

“The wife had nothing to do with the incident. The vehicle used in this case belongs to a relative, and its use was shared within the family. The foreign man used it in the crime,” Pol Col Pakpoom explained.

The Dutchman has since been arrested for his actions and is undergoing interrogations on whether he had any accomplices.
