SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan police are investigating two separate cases involving the dissemination of content on social media suspected of containing elements of sedition, insults and false allegations.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said a 48-year-old local man has been arrested and police are also tracking down another social media account owner to assist in the investigation.
He said both cases are being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) also take note of the decree by the Malay Rulers, as conveyed through a statement issued by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal on Oct 14, which called on all parties to exercise wisdom, patience and respect for the customs, traditions and dignity of the royal institution.
“Any differences in views should be resolved through legitimate and authorised channels, in accordance with the law and relevant provisions,” he said in a statement here today.
He said the investigation is being conducted professionally, transparently and impartially, with every enforcement action based on evidence and the applicable laws, to ensure that public safety, order and social harmony are maintained at all times.
Alzafny also advised the public against speculating or spreading unverified content that could cause confusion, trigger tensions and disrupt public order.
