  • Nigel Dewale, 60, from Great Harwood, Lancashire, received a suspended jail sentence for posting racist messages online targeting England footballer Jess Carter.
  • Dewale used his TikTok account, under the username Bogeyman, to send two offensive posts during last summer's Uefa women’s Euro tournament.
  • He was reportedly “in drink” when he posted the messages, which included derogatory remarks about women's football and racist slurs.
  • At Blackburn Magistrates’ Court, Dewale was handed a six-week custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months, after pleading guilty to sending a grossly offensive message.
  • Jess Carter, a key player for the Lionesses, had announced during the tournament that she would be stepping back from managing her social media accounts due to racist abuse.
