- Moses Edwards, a 45-year-old man from Wanstead, has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life following an incident at a former synagogue in east London.
- The alleged arson attack occurred on May 5 at the building located on Nelson Street in Whitechapel, which is currently in the process of being sold to a Muslim organisation.
- The Muslim organisation intends to convert the former synagogue into a mosque and community centre, providing a new purpose for the historic building.
- Police reported that the incident, which took place shortly after 5am, resulted in minor damage to the gates and a lock at the front of the property, with no injuries sustained.
- Edwards was scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, while a 52-year-old woman also arrested in connection with the investigation has been released on bail until August.
